Tarzan the Fearless (1933) was a 12 chapter film serial starring Buster Crabbe in his only appearance as Tarzan. It was released later in the 1960's in the country of India as a 71-minute feature film which comprised the first four chapters of the serial version
Tarzan the Fearless, the 1933 Robert F. Hill jungle adventure serial (based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs story) starring Buster Crabbe (the 1932 Olympic swimming champion who is most famous as "Flash Gordon" and "Buck Rogers" in the Universal serials; in the title role as Tarzan), Julie Bishop (billed as "Jacqueline Wells"), Edward Woods (he was originally cast as the lead in Public Enemy in 1931, and James Cagney was to play his friend, but after a couple of days of filming, director William Wellman had the two actors switch roles, and Cagney became a super star, and Woods only made a total of 13 movies before retiring in 1938!), Philo McCullough, and Mischa Auel.
Crabbe's role in this 1933 Tarzan serial Tarzan the Fearless launched a successful career in which he starred in over one hundred movies. It would be the only movie in which Crabbe starred as Tarzan. In the 1933 King of the Jungle, 1941 Jungle Man, and the 1952 serial King of the Congo.he played generic "jungle man" roles in the Tarzan mode.
